Modern Licensed NES Game Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland Coming Soon

Published:

MIX and Wallride games announcethey ceded their state-of-the-art NES title, Rugrats: Adventures in Gamelandis almost finished and will be released next month. It will be available on PS4/PS5, Switch, and PC on September 10, 2024. I think it will also be available on Xbox One and Series X|S, but it’s formatted weirdly in the press release.

The Big Deal About Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland is that it is built to run on a real NES, but state-of-the-art console versions also have an HD overlay that makes the game look more like a real cartoon. There is also a two-player co-op mode, and the gameplay resembles Super Mario Bros. 2 (US) but not so energetic.

I played the demo earlier this year and it was okay. I mentioned at the time that it might be held back by its co-op ambitions. Its immense sprites demand a lot of the NES hardware, which could mean fewer enemies or a lot more flickering. However, the demo was 10 minutes long. It might be more puzzle-focused, which could be fun. The word “NES” intrigued me, so I plan to check it out in the full version. I hope it’s at least as good as Children from the garbage can.

On the other hand, I don’t feel any nostalgia for Little ones. I don’t think this show was on any channel we had when I was growing up, and I mostly watched KidsWB. Sometimes Fox Kids, but never Nickelodeon. That’s just how it was back then; you just couldn’t watch everything.

Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland coming to PS4, PS5, Switch, PC, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on September 10, 2024.
