Two Minecraft-based theme parks are planned. Mojang is partnering with Merlin Entertainments to open destinations including rides, hotel rooms and shops in the UK and US in 2026 and 2027. Merlin is the operator of existing theme parks and attractions including Alton Towers, Legoland, Sea Life and Madame Tussauds.
Minecraft parks will open as part of an existing theme park or as modern attractions in the city center, according to The Guardian.. Mojang and Merlin also have plans to expand to other countries and territories.
These attractions won’t be Minecraft’s first visit to the real world. Earlier this year, Mojang partnered with Supply + Demand to launch the service Minecraft Experience: Saving Villagers“an immersive, interactive Minecraft mission” in Plano, Texas. However, the partnership with Merlin seems to be an order of magnitude more ambitious.
Minecraft is gearing up for a busy few years, with a live-action movie on the way Netflix animated series. These could also be crucial years for British theme parks, including: Universal planning also of a potential park.
The biggest news for Minecraft, of course, is that we just named it the best PC game ever. Yes, I will take my son to a Minecraft amusement park, even if it turns out to be just a shed full of cardboard boxes. I can’t resist.
