Minecraft will not play for free: “This is the best offer in the world”

At a time when many of this type of service games have convinced the free business model, Minecraft stubbornly remains premium. During the last interview with IGN, the developer Mojang said he was determined to stick to the established approach “Buy and having a game”, even now 16 years after his appearance. In miniature: don’t expect Minecraft to go for free in the near future.

“Yes, it doesn’t really work with the way we built it,” explained Interla Garneij, executive manufacturer of Minecraft Vanilla.

“I mean that we have built a game for a different purpose. So monetization does not work in this way for us. It is the purchase of the game, and then it all. For us it is important that our game is available for as many people as possible. And I think that this is a very basic value that it should be available to everyone. This is the best offer in the world.”

As the industry evolutions for years, many games have jumped to free charging, but infected with battles and cosmetic waters, with mixed results. Examples include Overwatch 2 decision about free playback, Destiny 2 or Microsoft Stablemate Halo Microsoft Halo (at least when it comes to its multiplayer).

Pressure, of course, applies to video and programmers’ publishers to find recent ways of earning survival, but apparently it is the pressure felt by Garneij and its colleagues from the team Mojang: “No, no. It is important for us that many people can enjoy them and this is strong.”

This is a sentiment extended by the director of Minecraft Vanilla, Agnes Larsson: “I mean it is part of the important values of Minecraft. I think it becomes such an important thing, what is Minecraft and excellent culture and values, and I think that we can all agree here.

Minecraft will continue to evolve without asking players to spend money on new functions. This is an example of the upcoming renovation of Vibrant Visuals graphics, which appears free of charge in the coming months. And without Minecraft 2 plans on the horizon, in the near future there will be no need to buy the best -selling game of all time. Of course, you do not want to play in another seemingly infinite number of devices that are located on these days, of course.
