Mojang has announced that after March 2025, Minecraft will no longer support the PlayStation VR virtual reality headset.
AND blog post detailed the upcoming changes to the console version of Minecraft, revealing that those who enjoy playing on PSVR will no longer be able to do so starting next year. Any version of Minecraft on PlayStation updated with the supposed March 2025 Update will no longer support PSVR at all.
Mojang hasn’t given a specific reason for discontinuing support for PSVR, though even Sony itself has abandoned PSVR, with its next headset, the PlayStation VR2, set to release in February 2023.
“Our support for PlayStation VR has come to an end and will no longer be supported in updates after March 2025,” the statement reads.
“After receiving the final update, you will continue to receive updates on PlayStation and will be able to play without PlayStation VR. From that point on, you can continue to build your worlds, and Marketplace purchases (including Tokens) will still be available. You will no longer be able to use PlayStation VR with Minecraft as it will no longer be supported in the latest updates.”
Many Minecraft fans have been put off by the amount of reality that has recently been infused into their game, as the first trailer for the film featuring Jack Black playing a Minecraft movie was widely mocked, with many criticizing the exploit of real-life characters like Black and Jason Momoa in a CGI world while the entire film was shot on a green screen.
The response was so sturdy that one fan even created a fresh fully animated version of the trailer, which was met with much praise from fans.
