Please excuse the jelly in the eyeball. I had just finished prying my face off the screen to which it was attached with glitter and amphetamine-soaked super glue secreted by a volley of Mindwave minigames. Current Steam demo it’s a generous slice of greatness that the developers refer to as “cerebral microgame madness.” It’s something you play for five minutes before you realize, not unpleasantly, that you’re definitely in it now. It has all come over you and it will be quite arduous to escape from it. Trailer below:
The action takes place in a “cognitive reality gaming” tournament, and your role as Pandora is to play crazy rounds of mini-games – most lasting just a few seconds before moving on to the next one – in between chatting with other participants. “GO TO THE TOP OF MINDSCAPE TOWER. GO INTO THE MINDS OF YOUR OPPONENTS. LET YOURSELF BE ABSORBED BY THE TRUTH THAT THEY ARE SPEAKING TO YOU IN THIS BRAIN FIGHT OF SIGHT AND SOUND HIDDEN IN EACH OF US,” we read on the Steam website. Normally I’d format hats there, but honestly, Mindwave makes money off of it.
In the low time I played: I won a life-and-death pistol duel, fed a few Tamagotchi-like creatures, caught a cat, brushed some hair, popped bubble wrap, spammed a bit while typing, and a few other things that also passed quickly for me he remembered. It’s all very dainty, but at the same time noiseless and insidious.
It seems to have already gained some notoriety. The game is currently collecting funds for, among others: full release on Kickstarterbut the HoloHammer development team’s social networks are already crowded with fanart. The team members have previously worked on several smaller games such as Run, Doodleguy! AND SOMNIONLESSbut they say it’s their biggest project ever. Soundtrack from Dorkus64 is also a real attraction here.
