MGS Master Collection update 2.0 increases resolution on PS5, PS4

Published:

Konami has released a novel patch for Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, implementing novel options to augment image resolution – depending on configuration. You can see full breakdown via link, and while it’s a bit complicated, it basically means you can run the last two games with better quality than before.

While MGS1 remains the same as before the update, MGS2 and MGS3 have novel settings introduced that allow for better resolution depending on the console. There are now two presets to choose from – original mode presents two titles at 1080p resolution, as before, while customized mode allows you to augment the resolution to 4K if you’re using a PS5 or PS4 Pro. Those playing on a standard PS4 unfortunately can’t play at resolutions higher than Full HD, but the image should still look slightly better thanks to the novel internal scaling.

In addition to the two presets, you can select Custom Mode, which allows you to choose from different scaling and resolution settings to suit your console and display. Whichever option you choose, it looks like the resulting image quality is a bit sharper considering the comparison photos.
