Has there ever been a better time to be a RPG fan? Fans of the genre are eating exceptionally well these days, and Metaphor: ReFantazio is lurking on the horizon with the potential to become another must-have purchase for those in the know. Adding to the hype, ATLUS dropped a brand up-to-date story trailer at its Anime Expo 2024 panel, giving fans an early preview of the tumultuous events that begin players’ journeys in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Today’s Anime Expo panel featured exhilarating up-to-date details for the game. Metaphor: ReFantazio director Katsura Hashino and character designer Shigenori Soejima filled the packed room with details about the game’s setting, characters, monsters, and more. For those in the know, part of the reason Metaphor ReFantazio is such a massive deal is that they’re the creators of Persona 3, 4, and 5, arguably the three most genre-defining RPGs of the last two decades.

You can definitely see that line in the look and design of the characters, and there’s a similarly compelling anime-style thread that runs through both the animated cutscenes and the moment-to-moment gameplay. There’s an fascinating mix of real-time and turn-based aspects to the combat, and it all looks incredibly compelling at this point, and that’s before we even find out how it all comes together.

Tomorrow morning, ATLUS will also share details from the panel in a special “ATLUS Exclusive” show – livestreamed on the ATLUS West YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@atlus) and Steam. A recording of the actual AXE panel will also be available to watch at a later date on the ATLUS West YouTube channel.

Metaphor: ReFantazio will release on October 11, 2024 for Xbox Series X|S, Windows, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Steam. Physical and digital pre-orders are available now.
