Metal Gear Solid producer Delta is hoping for an MGS4 remake, rescuing it from prison on PS3

Published:

Earlier this year, Konami released Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of the classic stealth action game.

Despite some technical issues, the project was very well received, leading many fans to wonder what would come next for the series.

We already know that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is in preparation, which will include several ports of older games in the series, but what about up-to-date installments of Kojima’s beloved franchise?

Well, it looks like one candidate that could be considered is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

In interview with Real Soundproducer Noriaki Okamura has expressed interest in revisiting the PS3 exclusive. (Translated quotes via Metal Gear Network.)

When asked about what’s next for the team behind Delta, Okamura replies that they’re “still in the process of figuring out” what their next project will be.

“We could work on another remake, or we could try to create something completely new,” Okamura says. “The Metal Gear series is basically a piece of video game history, encompassing everything from pixel art to a movie-like presentation, so the ideal approach to remaking or representing each title is different. We don’t intend to apply the exact same methodology we did with MGS Delta to every game. We want to consider the best approach for each game individually.”

He then says that he personally hopes for a remake of MGS4: Guns of the Patriots.

“The hardware of that era required extremely unique design choices to achieve good 3D performance with the technology available, and because of that MGS4 was given some pretty unusual code… I think porting it now would be a real challenge.”

For fans of the game, which is still exclusive to PS3, this is an encouraging sign.

The PS3 hardware architecture makes it very arduous to port the game to other systems, as we’ve heard many times in the past, so a remake of the game may actually be the best way to port it to up-to-date machines.

Fans are also hoping that MGS4 will be included in the aforementioned Master Collection Vol. 2, but again, porting a PS3 game to other systems is a arduous task.
