Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Review

Published:

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is a PlayStation 2 classic in a way that does not have many games from this era. Few games from this generation still keep graphically, narrative and maintain the pleasure of the game. Metal Gear Solid 3 is still impressive to look and play, even in 2025, which is a testimony to Hideo Kojima and the band that created it and released it in 2004. I never thought he needed a remake, but now that it is here, I’m not sure if I will ever be able to go back to the original versions.

When Konami is struggling with what to do with metal equipment without his creator, the decision to re -visit the snake again makes sense. In addition to the ranking as a favorite among fans of the series (among them), it is also the first in a wider history. It has always been my recommendation for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in a dense but engaging story, and this version will now be my recommendation.

My biggest fear in the remake was that without the involvement of Kojima, the game lacks the soul, admittedly impossible to define the element. However, because the game is such a direct adaptation of the original with just a handful of understandable changes, this element of the game came well in the process of copying/pasteing/improving. Even without the involvement of the original creator, the fact that he comes from a band with such a specific and professionally made idea and point of view remains intact. Decisions such as they do not reward dialogue (as they did for the remake of Gamecube Metal Gear Solid, Twin Snakes) and the preservation of all his strange bonuses and secrets (Snake can still have a nightmare), they all make up a delta as convincing as in 2004, which is a feat. However, few changes are wise.

Visually, the team in Konami fully led the game to contemporary standards. Snake looks amazing and you can see every scar from every battle on his exhausted face. In particular, the jungle with dense leaves and various animals looks great. And although no element of photos or interlude choreography has been changed, it is filled with a renovated life thanks to all elevated details and recent lighting. Later sections of the game, when you spend more time in ordinary military buildings than outside, there is a lack of impressive pop these early moments, but they still look fantastic.

If you want, you can employ original controls, but recent standard control elements make Snake move and shoots more like a current third person shooter. You had to get used to it and at the beginning of the panic game when I was caught and the muscle memory would make it press the wrong buttons, but I can’t imagine ever returning to how it was. I quickly and efficiently jumped up the heads of peace and I had a good time. A rapidly changing camouflage with shortcut keys is also a gift of heaven and finally fixes the game element that always annoyed me.

One of the places where Delta’s age shows is writing. Don’t get me wrong – years have passed since I played without skipping most of the cutscenes. In this game I remained fully and consistently involved in the characters and the direction of history. The boss’s journey has always been the climax of Snake Eater and I appreciated it all the more playing the remake.

But there are moments when you only need to suspend disbelief. Why couldn’t they take Snake radio when they put him in prison? Why do the Tatans, their prisoner allow, more or less come and go away, how will you like it? At an instant, the antagonist Volgin literally says: “Very good. I will explain it before I kill you, before I decided on an extended and honest absurd monologue, doing exactly what he promised. The start of the game also lasts too long. As a longtime fan of Snake Eater, I think these elements are charming and even comedy, but I completely understand whether the novice is frustrated with excessive and often indulgent lectures of the character.

Metal Gear Solid Delta quickly justifies its existence. He cleverly warns what made the original game great with evident reverence and update only the most vital elements. For fans like me, I color the eater snake in a recent lightweight and raises it to something better than I remembered. I cannot objectively imagine that this is my first experience with Snake Eater, but I am very excited that players who were always curious about metal equipment to make it their starting line.
