The finish line is to purchase the startup RISC-V CHIP RIVOS, trying to collect their own teams of metal chip programmers and switch to NVIDIA GPU equipment. According to BloombergThe contract has not yet been made public, but has been confirmed by sources.
Rivos is a “crafty” start-up, focused on GPU design and AI accelerators on the open RISC-V standard. The company’s IP includes SOC and PCIe accelerators.
The finish has long been working on its own non -standard AI accelerators, in a project called “Meta Training and Inference accelerator”. The MTIA chip has been designed together with Broadcom, it is probably based on RISC-V and was produced at Fabs Chip Fabs TSMC. The meta Accelerator recorded a round of tapes in March and was reportedly implemented in confined apply in the META data centers in combination with NVIDIA GPU and AI Acelerators.
It is not certain what the final contract with Rivos will look like. The startup recently applied a valuation of $ 2 billion in a recent financing round, probably putting a starting price somewhere in the 9 to 10-fig. The company may not want to be resolved in the internal team of META programmers, which he apparently wants from its novel buyout of the company. And of course the rumor may not even go because we do not know what stage conversations are from the outside.
If Meta wins Rivos, the company will be newly energized to produce one of the best profile RISC-V systems that the world has seen until then. The RISC-V standard has not yet reached the American data center in a significant way, currently usually observed in the implementation of McUS and IoT, although the last ads of China introduce consumer tablets and laptops to the market. AI RISC-V accelerator with Meta to replace the NVIDIA H200S internal apply would certainly be a huge swing for the developing set of instructions.
When Meta is working on expanding the push in artificial intelligence, stimulated by Marek Zuckerberg’s initiative regarding “personal superintelligence”, apparently he was looking for novel acquisitions to strengthen his internal teams. Nameless sources say that the general director of Zuckerberg was dissatisfied with the tardy pace of development in the MTIA project, with the next generation tape, still far away.
In 2022, Apple sued Rivos for the alleged instructing 40 former Apple engineers to steal gigabytes of confidential secrets from Apple Soc. Two companies settled in 2024 After Rivos is conducive to Apple, claiming that Apple tried to attach its employees so that they would not leave a novel company.
