The upcoming medieval time-travel action-strategy game Kingmakers is getting a live-action film from the studio behind numerous upcoming video game adaptations, including the animated Tomb Raider series and the Dredge film.
Media company Story Kitchen has announced a partnership with Kingmakers developer Redemption Road Games and publisher DiminutiveBuild to bring the highly anticipated game to the large screen, asking the question, “What if Braveheart had the ability to time travel?”
The film doesn’t have a release date yet, but neither does Kingmakers, beyond an unclear 2024. “Travel back in time to the war-torn Middle Ages with a vast arsenal of modern weaponry, change the course of history, and save the future in this action/strategy sandbox,” the game’s official synopsis reads. “Build your kingdom, take up arms, and lead an army of thousands into massive, real-time simulated battles.”
Story Kitchen wants to bring those elements to the film. “Kingmakers’ action, world-building, and intriguing science fiction make it the perfect concoction to build a new, driving franchise in Hollywood,” said Story Kitchen co-founder Dmitri M. Johnson.
“We are incredibly excited to be working with the Story Kitchen team to adapt Kingmakers into a time-transporting experience,” added DiminutiveBuild CEO Alex Nichiporchik.
Story Kitchen describes itself as a company “passionate about universe building and franchise architecture, specializing in adapting video games and other unconventional IP for film and television.” To date, they have announced countless titles, including a Just Case movie, a Vampire Survivors animated series, and more.
