The Arc System works, the creator of the Guilty Gear series, creates a 4v4 Marvel fight game called Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls for Sony.
The Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is to be published during Sony’s State of Play in June 2025 via Steam and Epic Games Store at some point in 2026.
In the post on the PlayStation Reed Baird, senior manufacturer, XDev, PlayStation Studios, confirmed the inclusion of the iconic heroes of Marvel and villains such as Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Storm, Mrs. Marvel, Star-Lord and Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes) characters.
The 4v4 fight game sounds overwhelming, but the game director and the main battle designer, Kazuto Sekine, insisted that it was not so.
“Overall, playing the fight with the VS team requires the player to learn many characters, but for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls you only need to master one character to play the game,” Sekine said.
“We have designed mechanics in such a way that you can perform various actions with traditional combat games or simple inputs. When pressing a few buttons, many characters can appear on the screen to provide backups or attack – creating a new and exciting experience of the team versus the battle.”
Visually Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has a well -known Arc system in the style of Japanimation in style. When it comes to gameplay mechanics, each character has a set of normal, special and unique attacks inspired by their skills and power in Marvel Lore. And of course there are ultimate cinema skills.
“The VS Fighting Games team has a long tradition of 2V2 or 3V3 team formats, so this is something that we discussed in a team of programmers,” Sekine added. “We’ve come back there many times, from thinking that it would be better to make a 1v1 game or stick to a fixed 3V3 format.
“At the root, we thought that the attractiveness of the VS Fighting Games teams is the intensity of battles with many characters on the screen. In addition, one of the appeals of Marvel Comics is to observe the extensive cast of the characters that create all kinds of unique teams.
“Bearing in mind these two ideas, we came to the conclusion that creating a system of team 4 in 4 would be the best way to create these exaggerated moments, but also for the further development of the combat genre.”
Most of the stages also contain many areas, with transitions that play a “strategic role”. Sony suggested fans who check the screenshots of New York Marvel to see what you can find.
