Play was revealed for the first time, and recently plays in Evo Las Vegas 2025, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting SoulsIt brings a fundamental change to the species of fighting tags. The ARC system works, Marvel and PlayStation Studios have gathered to create a living, stylized world, and after an intensive 30-minute game session last weekend I count the days until I am the warrior Tōkon again.
Building a 4V4 team
“The reason we went with 4V4 is that it has never been done in combat games before, in which players can change the characters,” says Kazuto Sekine, game director and main battle designer, Arc System Works. “We wanted to challenge ourselves to create a new fighter.”
During the session I had access to the All-Star Heroes set to create my four-person team:
● Doctor Doom is snail-paced, but he hardly hits the magical and complex attack attacks.
● Mrs. Marvel is rapid with high -risk attacks and prizes.
● The storm is an air threat with deadly crossovers.
● Iron Man keeps enemies at a distance with anti -actitates and other penalties.
● Star-Lord was the most technical with his ability to switch between firearms and crazy juggling.
● Captain America is a versatile versatile and great entry point for modern players.
After some experiments, I played a storm and star-lord. I loved how their combinations, personality and flair were faithful to their heroes (at some point Storm, strictly calls Star-Lord as “feathers” when he fools around, what I loved). Light and medium Storm attacks are beginner -friendly and a combine harvester of its quick skills, which is a unique attack of the character you activate by pressing R2. I also found success in Star-Lord, using a rapid blaster and even in the fight in his final, simply activated by pressing R1.
The control scheme is quite elementary. A square, a triangle and a circle are your lightweight, medium and massive attacks, and X, and X is the assembly button. All your special attacks and skills are reserved for triggers. L1 enables a quick dashboard, L2 is a quick mounting capacity, and R1 and R2 ensure unique attack and quick skills.
How the change between the characters works
Traditionally, in Tagów, you need to turn the whole team before the end of the match, but in Tōkon your team divides one health bar. This means that you do not have to master the whole list to be effective, and in this sense you can get closer to the game like a more conventional warrior if you want. At the beginning of the match you can only control your main character. As the skirmish progresses, you gain the opportunity to switch to the assistant’s figure when you lose the round, taking a throw or turn the opponent to another part of the stage. It creates an captivating dance so as not to give your opponents more options for apply against you, while making sure that you first gain access to your extended list and who you want as the first option to create backups.

Where you traditionally have a dedicated button to change between your event, here you do it during assists. After successfully calling for aid, you have a brief window that can be replaced. This exchange creates a natural exchange in the chaos of the battle and a few stylish moments between the characters. Tōkon takes care of what is happening on the screen all the time, so switching between the characters in the middle of the combination, standing still, and even in the air, creates unique animations, such as characters that give each other daps or joking about entering.
Adjusting the styles of the fighting of various players
When I studied the opponent’s movements, they adopted a different approach, focusing on the supersles and trying to get their team on full glasses. Where each character performs a quick combination, sending an opponent in the air, while breaking it to the ground, finishing what I can only describe as a superhero Poose-Thon. The methodological approach to the maniacs created fun between us and the return, but the game was favorable to both approaches and provided their own sense of satisfaction.
“As for the game design, it was very important for us to do something that is easy to get, but it has a depth besides the initial entry,” says Sekine. “One thing that we designed very carefully when designing the game was to make sure that there would be no mechanic or attack, which someone who is just starting would not be able to perform. He would consolidate this experience of new players.”
“After pressing the assembly button, depending on the situation and what is happening in the match, the assistant will come out and perform another action suitable for this particular moment,” says Sekine. “Designing it in such a way that we are able to clearly communicate with the player when they should call their assists and make it easier for them to play.”
Inspired by the anime heroes in action
“At Marvel Games, it is very important to enable programmers to place their own unique stamps on Marvel Universe,” says Michael Francisco, senior product development manager, Marvel Games. “In the case of ARC it is a merger of Marvel and American Comics with Japanese anime and manga, and this can be seen reflected in the style of art and character designs.”
All heroes sip a charm, but the background also contains many thrilling details. Eagle -eye fans should be careful about the captivating marking of heroes and events, pedestrians reacting to the action on the screen and distributed Easter eggs. It is obvious that a lot of concern has been devoted to the construction of this world.
4V4 fights start next year
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is expected to seem in 2026, and although I am excited, seeing all the heroes, combinations and worlds to which the game will take us, about, I asked the band how they feel, creating something modern that has never been done in the genre of fighting before.
“It’s terrifying and exciting, exciting and terrifying, at the same time,” says Francisco. “From the very beginning, we all want to honor and respect the rich history and heritage of Marvel, while preparing our own path to create something new and innovative. We hope that fans are excited to see what we came up with as cooperation between all three pages.”
