Majima-Focused Like a Dragon: Hawaiian Pirate Yakuza Announced at RGG Summit as Next Yakuza Game

Published:

The next Yakuza game follows series wildcard Goro Majima fighting pirates and is titled Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Sega revealed it at the RGG Summit in September 2024.

Long Disclosure trailer showed Majima washed ashore on Rich Island, near Hawaii, looking very tired and being aided by a child with a tiger. Majima himself introduced the clip as taking place six months earlier, asking how the hell he ended up on the beach.

It looks like it’ll be taking a direct cue from Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth’s story, with Majima having to deal with the fallout from Ichiban Kasuga’s involvement with the Palekana cult on Nele Island. Majima will apparently be hunting down lost treasure, and it could even feature some ship combat in this half-Yakuza, half-Assassin’s Creed 4: Blackflag looking entry.

Yakuza fans have been waiting for this game to be revealed for a long time. Although the last mainline game, the colossal Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, arrived as the last mainline installment in January, RGG Studio has become known for its quick releases.

For example, over the past five years the company has released Yakuza 4 Remastered, Yakuza 5 Remastered, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Judgment Remastered, Lost Judgment, Like a Dragon: Ishin, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, and Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, as well as three Super Monkey Ball games and an enhanced Virtua Fighter 5 Remastered version. This brings the total to 12 games.

Since Sega’s announcement at RGG Summit in August, fans have been wondering what this modern installment in the series would be. Whether it would be another main Yakuza/Like a Dragon game, another spin-off in the vein of Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, another remake in the vein of Yakuza: Kiwami or Like a Dragon: Ishin, another game in the Judgment spin-off series, or something else entirely.

In our 9/10 review of the latest game, IGN stated, “Sprawling, addictive, and packed with fast-paced brawls, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth isn’t just the best turn-based Like a Dragon game, it’s one of the best in the entire series.”
