Magic: The Gathering’s Final Fantasy set will include Emeta-Selch from FF14 and Kefka from FF6, as well as more obvious choices

When I imagined what cards we would get as a result of Magic crossing with the Final Fantasy series, I thought we would see a lot of Cloud and Tifa, as well as tropes from newer games like Clive and Noctis. For some reason I didn’t expect them to delve into FF14, despite its popularity, and yet two pieces of art revealed in a first look at next year’s set are just that, while another depicts a memorable moment in the life of a true fan of FF6. (Which is basically Morrowind from the Final Fantasy series.)

As part A hearty video in which Square Enix producer Shoichi Ichikawa and Wizards of the Coast product architect Zakeel Gordon go at each other about their games, we saw art for six cards from the set. Unsurprisingly, they look much nicer than the cards from the official Final Fantasy CCG, which used blurry in-game assets to represent several characters.

One features Kefka Palazzo, the flamboyant final boss of FF6, poisoning Doma’s water supplies. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kefka returns in another card, with this one being used to represent a way of dropping poison tokens on an opponent, and the other showing him as a summoned legend. Emet-Selch, the people’s favorite villain from FF14, also makes an appearance and has 1,000 hours of free time to delve into, as well as Postmoogle from the same game. It’s basic to forget that FF14 is a occasional success in the MMO world, which basically finances Square Enix’s less successful releases.

Other art includes Lightning from FF13 and Tidus and Yuna kissing from FF10. According to official website this photo will be an illustration of the reprint Together Forever card introduced in the 2018 Battlebond set. Finally, as you might expect, there’s an image of Sephiroth from FF7, although given the action pose he’s in, I wouldn’t be surprised if this artwork also accompanied the reprint. Perhaps classic Murder card?

The Final Fantasy Magic set will be released on June 13, 2025 in print and digital formats on Arena. This will be the first of the Magic’s Universes Beyond sets to be legal in the standard format, along with subsequent crossovers such as the Spider-Man set, which is expected to arrive next year.
