In a win for smaller-scale, sub-$70 titles, 2K publisher Mafia: The Old Country hailed the PS5 game as a success, exceeding its internal sales expectations.
On the most recent earnings call where this was also confirmed GTA6 has been pushed back to November 2026, said company CEO Strauss Zelnick Gaming business that the title’s success proves there is a market for high-quality narrative experiences.
He added: “What we suspected has been confirmed, which is… if you give consumers a great narrative experience that’s a lot of fun, has some level of containment, and at a fair price, you can get a great result.”
Instead of a full-price launch, Mafia: The Old Country costs £44.99/$49.99 and delivers story-focused gameplay that’s all about the story. The open world is narrow to a separate mode in the main menu, allowing the main story to tell its story over multiple chapters.
According to the comments of the voice actor in The Old Country, it is speculated that the next installment of the series has already been greenlit. Hangar 13 “has been approved for a sequel, another mafia game, which is very exciting,” said Isabella’s voice actress, Carina Conti. This, combined with today’s comments, would suggest that another Mafia game would have a similar goal.
