Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will be released in September

Published:

The Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster will be released this year, on September 25, 2024. This novel version of the iconic 2012 zombie chainsawing action game will undoubtedly cause as much of a stir as it did 12 years ago, mainly because it’s already almost over the top as it was back then. Perhaps less outrageous considering people have been acting wildly online for the past 12 years, but here we are nonetheless.

Zombie hunter Juliet will return in the same story with the same weapon she had in 2012, wearing the same cheerleader outfit as back then. The only massive change is that RePOP “adds faster chainsaw action and auto-fire to its chainsaw shooter,” so “the action never slows down until the very end!”

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP was first announced as a remake in 2022 and then downgraded to a remaster because that’s apparently what people wanted. The premiere was also scheduled to take place around 2023, but was later moved to this year.

“We changed the design of RePOP from Remake to Remaster based on your requests!” producer Yoshimi Yasuda wrote on Twitter last year. It’s still not entirely clear what this means, but it probably has more to do with licensed soundtracks and/or the crippling costs of creating large-scale current games than anything else.

The RePOP release date trailer shows off some novel combat segments and some truly nostalgia-inducing weird zombie characters. There’s also Juliet’s family, which I admit I completely forgot about. We’re not here to be memorable, folks, we’re here for goofy rock star zombies and jokes.

Either way, get ready to murder giant zombie Elvis again. I expect many of you will do this – there’s a whole decade of novel players and plot people didn’t get their hands on it last time. For the uninitiated, I’ll post the original trailer from 2012 below.
