Live action Totally Spies! IGN has confirmed that a TV series is in development at Prime Video, with Will Ferrell set to executive produce.
Total spies! is a French animated series that started in 2001 and which recently, after a break of almost 11 years, had its seventh season in France in May this year. This isn’t what Warner Bros. claims either. Discovery EMEA and the French children’s network Gulli I just ordered the eighth season of the series.
Regarding the topic of the live-action series, we can learn some information from the official log:
“Totally Spies!” is the YA adaptation of Banijay Kids & Family’s popular animated series of the same name, about Clover’s stylish best friends, Alex and Sam, who save the world as international spies while trying to survive the ups and downs of their first year of college life.”
Ferrell will be joined by Gloria Sanchez’s Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor and Banijay Kids & Family’s Benoit de Sabatino.
“Totally Spies! is a huge success for Banijay Kids & Family, which has been translated into 60 languages and sold in over 220 countries,” di Sabatino said in a statement. “With 3 million fans on social media, the series continues to grow in animated form with the recently aired Season 7. I was approached by Rola Bauer about the live-action adaptation and we were delighted to work with Amazon MGM Studios. With her: Ludovic Attal and the support of Punit Matoo, we are honored to join such a stronghold of women-centric producers in Gloria Sanchez Productions to produce for Prime Video.”
“Will, Alix and I are thrilled to join our partners at Amazon and Banijay to bring Totally Spies to life! in the form of a live program,” Elbaum said. “Gloria Sanchez was originally founded to tell stories about complex characters and amplify women’s voices and narrators. As longtime fans of the animated series, we couldn’t think of a story that fits our ethos better. The themes of female strength, never sacrificing friendship, fun or your true self in order to succeed resonated with us then and we feel like we’re ready to get back to it now.”
Total spies! has almost 200 episodes under its belt and received a prequel titled Totally Spies! The Movie, a spin-off series titled The Amazing Spiez! which ran for two seasons, comics, novels, and even a few video games.
