Live-action ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’ film has ‘working script’ – Sony’s release plans revealed in fresh court document

Published:

A fresh court document shows that Sony hopes to begin filming its live-action Horizon Zero Dawn film in 2026, with a release planned for 2027.

Game post said it discovered this information in a court document filed as part of Sony’s ongoing legal dispute with Tencent over Light of Motiram, which it accuses of being a “knockoff” of the video game Guerrilla Horizon: Zero Dawn.

In a legal document, PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash stated that Horizon Zero Dawn already has a working script and Sony is looking for a director. The plan is to start filming next year and release the film in 2027.

“We are working on a film based on Horizon in collaboration with Columbia Pictures,” Qizilbash said in a statement. “We already have a working script and are actively looking for a director, with our goal to shoot in 2026 and premiere in 2027. The live-action film follows the recent collaboration between Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions on 2022’s Uncharted and 2023’s Gran Turismo.”

Qizilbash also described Horizon’s heroine Aloy as “a key icon of the anticipated film” and highlighted her importance “to the flywheel of franchise building.”

Sony announced Horizon in January during the Sony press conference at CES 2025. Columbia Pictures produced a successful 2022 An unexplored movie with Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan, so it’s no surprise that this collaboration will continue.

Speaking on stage at CES, Qizilbash said: “Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions are in the early stages of development on the film adaptation of the award-winning game Horizon Zero Dawn.

“Imagine Aloy’s beloved story, set in a vibrant, distant future world filled with gigantic machines, shown for the first time on the big screen.”

During the same press conference, Sony announced film adaptation of Helldivers 2 AND adaptation of the Ghost of Tsushima anime series.

The question is: who should play Aloy?
