This week, the Lenovo Legion Go portable gaming PC, which is meant to compete with the likes of the Valve Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally, finally saw a massive $100 price drop, at least on Amazon. The handheld is now on sale $499. That makes it $300 cheaper than the $799 Asus ROG Ally X MSRP and just $50 cheaper than the $549 Steam Deck OLED MSRP.
Since the AMD Z1 Extreme chipset in the Legion Go and Asus ROG Ally offer higher performance than the Steam Deck and the internally identical Steam Deck OLED, this makes the Lenovo Legion Go one of the most competitively priced notebooks on the market, especially if its gorgeous IPS display 8.8-inch diagonal is eye-catching. In our full review of the Lenovo Legion Go (and updates that have improved the device a bit), we praised its two USB-C ports, display, sturdy kickstand, and detachable controllers.
For portable gaming PC buyers who are looking for something more than the basic Steam Deck, the Legion Go becomes an attractive alternative to the OLED Steam Deck if you don’t mind trading OLED quality for a larger IPS display. It’s so much cheaper than the ROG Ally
The Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme has an MSRP of $649, although it doesn’t offer the same performance as the Ally whenever.
The Lenovo Legion Go should be a decent buy in the long run. We expect a less powerful or equivalent Lenovo Legion Go Lite to arrive in the coming months, but that shouldn’t matter if you’re already shopping in this price range. That said, it appears that a truly upgraded Lenovo Legion Go 2 will also arrive at some point in 2025, though we have no expectations yet as to how much power it will show off. Perhaps the Legion Go 2 or Legion Go Lite have something to do with this price cut?
