LEGO Fortnite Big Ninjago: Rise of the Ninja update is essentially a brand modern Fortnite game

Epic Games has announced the next era of LEGO Fortnite with a massive Ninjago: Rise of the Ninja update coming later this week.

Arriving ahead of Ninjago’s 15th anniversary next year and just in time for LEGO’s second anniversary in Fortnite this month, Rise of the Ninja looks set to be one of the biggest LEGO Fortnite Odyssey updates ever – with a modern world to explore, Ninjago weapons to master, and some very familiar faces.

Zane, Jay, Cole and Kai will be coming to Fortnite along with the latter ninja as part of the LEGO Ninjago Pass. All four characters will also receive human-like (rather than LEGO minifigure) versions for the first time for employ in non-LEGO Fortnite modes.

Players will be able to master elemental abilities by traveling around the game’s modern Ninjago Island and visiting Sanctum to gain ice, lightning, and earth powers. This is the latest departure from customary weapons seen in LEGO Fortnite, following the addition of class-based hero powers a few months ago.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that ninja weapons won’t be included – the update will also add nunchucks and shurikens. And perhaps just in time, as the LEGO Fortnite trailer above also shows the arrival of a gigantic, fire-breathing dragon boss.

Fortnite clearly has gigantic plans for Ninjago, with the game’s second major update set to arrive in 2026, which is expected to feature even more characters like Nya, Master Wu, and Lloyd. Until then, the first drop of Ninjago will appear in the game in just a few days, on December 11.
