Another wrote: “They’re remaking one of the greatest games of all time and it only appeared briefly in the trailer.”

The longer reveal took place during the Japanese Nintendo Direct stream, where more gameplay was shown. It looks, in a word, fantastic.

The classic RPG finally gets the recognition it deserves

The remake is a huge deal for fans of the sprawling RPG series, who have been waiting for Trails in the Sky to come to Switch for years. In fact, the Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky trilogy was essentially the beginning, originally releasing on PC and then PSP in North America in 2011. The series is available on Steam, but has otherwise been relatively strenuous to find.

“The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is the first part of what promises to be a solid, entertaining trilogy,” we wrote in our original review. “While this first chapter isn’t the most original yet, like any good JRPG it offers a fun storyline, fast-paced combat, interesting quests, an engaging narrative, and hours of gameplay. And while the 50/50 balance between combat and story may not be to everyone’s taste, its charm and overall entertainment value make it well worth the investment.”

Trails in the Sky gained a cult following thanks to its fantastic world-building, memorable characters, and dense combat system, spawning a series spanning multiple entries in multiple arcs. The most recent entry was Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak, which released earlier this year.

In addition to Trails of the Sky, several other announcements were made during today’s Direct, including a modern Castlevania collection and more. You can read everything that was announced here . The Trails in the Sky remake is set to release in 2025.
