Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver I & II Remastered Leaked via Merch

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2 remasters leaked via two collectible figurines at San Diego Comic-Con. This is certainly a fresh thing in terms of leaks, we’ve had games leaked via ERSB, promotional drinks, and poorly chosen ads, but never a statue.

We also see the Crystal Dynamics logo, and since that team took over ownership of the franchise when it joined Embracer, it looks like it will have at least some input into the remaster. The statues are on display at Dark Horse’s booth at San Diego Comic-Con 2024.

“We are pleased to announce that Crystal Dynamics has acquired control of several gaming franchises—including TOMB RAIDER and Legacy of Kain—from the games’ previous owner, Square Enix Limited,” the team said at the time. “As a result of this change, Crystal Dynamics (or its affiliate) is now the owner and controller of the gameplay and personal data associated with these games.”

Fans have been clamoring for something from the Soul Reaver series for years, but until now there has been no sign of a remake or remaster. However, Embracer said that they saw “a ton of potential, not just in sequels, but also remakes, remasters, spin-offs, and even transmedia projects” when they spent a huge amount of cash to acquire a slew of IPs.

Both games are sequels to The Legacy of Kain, both featuring the vampire specter Raziel on a mission to kill Kain, the star of the first game. Both titles received rave reviews when they were released between 1991 and 2001, which is not surprising since they were directed by Uncharted’s Amy Hennig.

Neither Crystal Dynamics nor Embracer have officially revealed the games, but if the products are already in production, their release can’t be too far off.
