Larian Studios Wants You to Test Out Baldur’s Gate 3’s Next Major Update

Studio Larian has lifted the curtain Baldur’s Gate 3Another massive update, revealing fresh details previously announced features, as well as unexpected improvements to split-screen multiplayer. Players can test out Patch 7 by signing up for the closed beta test, which begins next week.

The most significant factor in the fresh patch is the long-awaited official Larian modding toolset, currently in closed alpha. The fresh tool gives modders what they need to create cosmetic changes like additional hairstyle options, cube skins, or UI tweaks — as well as significant additions to the game, like fresh species and classes as options in character creation.

The update announcement also outlined numerous changes and bug fixes to companion behavior, animations, and dialogue triggers, all-new cinematics to end “bad” matches, and a more energetic split-screen option in multiplayer.

Larian attributes this change to the power of friendship, which “overcomes all obstacles, including the dividers between screens.”

Given the scale of adding mod support to an already incredibly sophisticated game, the studio held a closed alpha with mod creators. And now, Larian is ready to open up that testing pool much wider to truly test Patch 7 “at scale, with a variety of systems and save games,” according to their update.
