It’s been a year since the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, and now the game’s developer, Larian Studios, has revealed how players choose how to navigate the Dungeons & Dragons video game.
The studio revealed a whole bunch of statistics long thread X/Twitter. It contains captivating data on Baldur’s Gate 3’s soul-crushing permadeath Honor Mode and which characters fans favored more than others, but it also reveals that 1.9 million players were turned into a wheel of cheese at some point.
Another major stats update reveals that while everyone’s favorite dog, Scratch, has been petted 120 million times, Owlbear Cub and His Highness the Cat have only received 41 million and 141,660 petting attempts, respectively. Most importantly, though, we now know how everyone has chosen to approach the game’s romance options.

Larian’s posts include a nice selection of romanceable characters. Baldur’s Gate 3 companions have been kissed a combined 75 million times, with Shadowheart leading the pack with a staggering 27 million kisses. Astarion is, unsurprisingly, in second place with 15 million kisses, and destitute Minthara is in last place with 169,937. We also take a look at the stats of Halsin, Larian’s infamous druid character. Of the 658,000 players who have had sex with Halsin, 70% have chosen his human form, while the remaining 30% have chosen his grizzly bear form.
Across the entire Baldur’s Gate 3 experience, Astarion proved to be the most played, with Origin creating 1.21 million characters with him at the start. That’s a lot of High Elf Rogues, but Larian explains that 93% of players chose to create their own character when they started their adventure. Meanwhile, while 141,660 players completed Honor Mode, a staggering 1,223,305 matches ended in a loss.
When it comes to some of the more crucial story moments you can achieve in Baldur’s Gate 3, 3.3 million users managed to kill the Netherbrain, while another 1.8 million chose to betray the mind flayer emperor. Interestingly, only 34 players who chose Lae’zel as their Origin character also chose to kill him at the end of the game.
Astarion was your favorite Origin character avatar, followed closely by the Wizard of Waterdeep, and of course, God’s favorite princess.
However, over 93% of players chose the game as their custom avatar. Cool. photo: twitter.com/rzyj3scKPx

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game of nearly endless possibilities, and that’s one of the main reasons why players loved it last summer. Despite having so much to offer at launch, Larian has continued to deliver more content in post-launch updates, with many speculating that Alfira can be added as a modern companion When Update 7 coming soon.
While we wait for Larian to expand the already extensive world of Baldur’s Gate 3, be sure to check out our Rating 10/10At the time of its July 2023 launch, we said: “With crunchy, tactical RPG combat, a memorable story with complex characters, a highly polished cinematic presentation, and a world that always rewards exploration and creativity, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a new pinnacle for cRPGs.”
