Current goal: Get some gaming scares for the season
Halloween fell on a Thursday this year, and I was so busy with work and other things that I didn’t manage to find much time for spooky gaming in the days leading up to it. However, I still have a craving for interactive horror games, so this weekend I’m hoping to play one of the seminal games in the history of survival horror, officially translated into English and released for the first time in the States: Clock Tower. fresh version, Clock Tower: rewindcomes to us courtesy of WayForward and represents my first real chance to play the 1995 SNES horror classic.
I actually don’t know much about the original Clock Towerand I left it like that on purpose, because I want to know as little as possible and see for myself. It’s scarier this way. In compact, it’s a 2D point-and-click survival horror game that tells the story of Jennifer, a teenage orphan adopted by a family in a immense, creepy mansion, and stalked by a terrifying creature known as Scissorman. The WayForward release allows you to play an enhanced version of the game “which includes numerous gameplay additions and quality of life improvements,” and I may check that out too, but for starters I’ll be playing in original mode and experiencing the game the same way it was when it scared back in 1995 many Japanese players. Sure, it may already be November, but I’ll stop at the end of October for a little longer if everything stays the same for you. —Caroline Petit
