July 4th Gaming Deals That Would Make Founders Happy

July 4th is a day of chauvinistic mythmaking and summer cheer. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by grilling food, watching explosions, and ordering a bunch of nippy stuff online that you don’t need at all but would still be really nippy.

Trade was a key driver of discontent with the crown when a group of American colonies originally told England to piss off, so it makes sense that shopping remains a fundamental ritual at the heart of celebrating the nation’s founding. Independence Day is a great time to buy a car or a refrigerator, but that’s not what you’re here for. Instead, I’ve rounded up an eclectic mix of Fourth of July gaming deals and culturally relevant oddities that happen to be on sale right now. Check them out. This is what George Washington would have wanted.

Best TV sales

There are hundreds of budget TVs to choose from, but I have two that should do the trick at both price points. If you’re content with gaming and streaming shows on a budget TV like I am, Best Buy is currently selling TCL Q5 Series 55-inch 4K Displays for just $300 (33 percent off). If you want something fancier, you’re in luck, too. While you could spend thousands on a truly top-of-the-line TV with blacks as shadowy as the event horizon, you could also splurge and buy a 48-inch LG OLED. Best Buy sells them too for only $800 (almost 50% off the list price).

Best Used Game Dealer

GameStop is currently leading buy 2 get 1 free on all used game purchasesincluding his (very narrow) retro collection. It’s a great way to catch up on sale buys you may never have gotten your hands on (Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Watch Dogs 2, GTA V) as well as newer stuff that hasn’t dropped in value yet. For example, you can play some of the biggest games of 2024, like Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year DoorAND Tekken 8 and save about $50 in the process. Have fun mixing and matching. Just make sure they have used copies of the games in stock.

The best of the rest

Here’s where we can have some great fun with a quick round of other nippy deals:
