People in the back Jewishlast year’s beautifully crafted Scottish adventure, and my favorite game of 2024, is back crowdfunding their next project, Car.
“Everything in Car is hand-made from various materials and animated using traditional stop-motion techniques,” we read on the game’s Kickstarter. “We then turn the animations into textures and sprites that we can use in the game, adding normal maps that allow us to achieve dynamic lighting and shadows. We build on everything we’ve learned Jewish and we strive to create an even more visually appealing stop-motion game.”
Narrative director and designer Jack King-Spooner told Polygon Carit contains just six words: “Hope, nurturing, community and overall health.”
Car follows a robot of the same name as it mines for valuable materials and cultivates a society of other automatons, some of which are voiced by internet personalities such as Jonathan Holmes and Vinny Vinesauce. Gameplay will be split between underground mining and above-ground exploration, with switching between a side-scrolling 2D view in the former and full 3D in the latter.
in fact, Car it looks like it was made with the same care and attention to detail that it deserved Jewish nomination for the Excellence in Visual Arts award at Awards at the Independent Games Festival. Backers seem to think so too, as King-Spooner and partner Talha Kaya have already raised half of their $14,813 goal before the February 12 end date. Be sure to check it out Kickstarter page for more details.
