Jackbox Games has found a winning formula with the Jackbox Party Pack, with the developer releasing 10 successful collections over the past 10 years. These game packs feature a ton of pick-up-and-play mini-games. One player hosts the game, and everyone else joins in on their mobile devices. Most of these games are family-friendly and focus on joke-making, improv comedy, quizzes, or uncomplicated skill tests.
The eleventh package, Naughty Jackbox Packbreaks the mold; it’s smaller (and cheaper), has only three minigames, and those games are designed to be a bit more adventurous. The smaller package and defined focus make it one of the most intriguing packages, and the collection dances between debauchery and silliness.
Naughty Jackbox Pack is at the forefront Pretending all night longsocial-deductive game. Simulationthe original version of Party Pack 3, often overly soiled and All night long takes advantage of that. This is a full sequel that adds Remote Play, broadening the appeal.
There is also Dirty drawinga delightfully vulgar take on the beloved drawing game that encourages players to draw lots of penises. Finally, we have a recent game Let me finishwhere players argue over dilemmas like “where’s the butt in the mailbox?” and “how do you give this particular mechanical contraption a blowjob?”
“Something that’s really cool about Jackbox Games is that we let players take things where they want to take them,” innovative director Brooke Breit told Polygon. “We give you a springboard to jump off of and make the game your own for yourself and your group of friends.”
Games like Quiplash (supplementing the punch lines to previously written hints) and Surviving on the Internet (writing nasty comments online to attribute to trusted friends) has already inspired some pretty adult responses, and the NSFW pack has been a popular request from players. Jackbox decided to stay on topic, opting for three games instead of five. “It feels like a very manageable pack of games,” Breit said. “It’s something new for us, in terms of our first game with a maturity rating. So it was nice to have a more contained product where we could try it out.”
Naughty Pack can be a game night in itself; while the latest Multipicker umbrella client lets players navigate through all 10 packs, it’s not a perfect system, and players still have to open and close packs as they switch games. Being able to settle down and enjoy one pack is a much more cozy experience, and Naughty Pack All games have one thing in common – a sense of humor.
While all of these games encourage racy answers or racy drawings, Jackbox has done some testing to make sure it doesn’t turn into a race for the easiest, most vulgar punchline. Pretending all night longthe social deception element of the game is key to winning. “We approached it in a way that people don’t necessarily say surprising or vulgar things,” Breit said. “You’re confessing something or hiding something, and then you’re like, ‘Well, no, no, listen to me!’ It’s a fun conversation that builds rapport between players.”
IN Dirty drawing AND Let me finishsexual jokes are balanced with absurdist prompts. The team also tried to keep the jokes warm, if not necessarily robust; the prompts don’t target specific people’s bodies or interests. “We really try to keep the tone of the prompts inclusive — fun, comfortable, you might be pushed a little bit outside of your comfort zone, but it’s an equal opportunity play time,” Breit said.
This smaller, more focused one Naughty Pack offers an intriguing twist on a very successful formula. The sight of the themed Party Pack piqued my interest; the fact that it includes so many stupid fellatio jokes is just the icing on the cake. Naughty Jackbox Pack is scheduled for release on September 11, 2024 on PC and consoles.
