It’s finally happening! We’re getting a up-to-date Virtua warrior!

Is it just me or are this year’s The Game Awards really good? The matter is even better because one of the key announcements was the upcoming appearance of a completely up-to-date installment of the Virtua Fighter series. Seriously, if you lived on the Sega side, you didn’t have to bother with Tekken because Virtua Fighter was – in my opinion anyway – much better. The fact that it’s going up against the fantastic Tekken 8 means that 3D fighting game fans are really in for a treat right now.

The trailer was especially fun because it gave us just a few details. First of all, the Ryu Ga Gotoku studio is again working on a up-to-date installment of the Virtua Fighter series. You may know them as the team behind the massive Yakuza/Like A Dragon series, and considering that Yakuza’s fighting was powered by Shenmue, which in turn was powered by Virtua Fighter, made them the perfect team to take the reins of this series.

So far, we’ve only seen Akira and Sarah Bryant doing it in a sandy cityscape, with Akira sporting a up-to-date secret look – in case you’re wondering, it’s a fedora and a trench coat – before switching perspective to point us towards the upcoming VF Direct where we’ll find out (let’s hopefully) all the most significant details.

Fans of the series – myself included – have been waiting patiently since the release of Virtua Fighter 5. While the game has survived several previous generations and is still playable on up-to-date consoles, it currently has little or no community, so I’m hopeful that with its release A few more people will join the game when the up-to-date title comes out, so I can practice poking them with the Lion’s stupid, pointy fingers.

VF Direct will take place on December 13 at 12:00 pm EST. Stay tuned for more, because we already have them
