‘It’s a Huge Update’: PS5 Pro Is Set to Get Much Improved in 2026

Published:

Sony has not been shy about the fact that it is actively working on improvements to the PS5 Pro, specifically its improvements PSSR scaling technology.

Since the supercharged system launched in 2024, support for the system has been mixed, with some games benefiting greatly from the improved hardware, while others have undoubtedly been disappointing.

Hardware spy Moore’s Law is dead spoke to an anonymous developer about what fans can expect from future updates, and the improvements are described as “massive.”

Without going into too much detail, as part of the work on the Amethyst project together with AMD – which also lays the foundations for PS6 – the platform owner plans to introduce a up-to-date version of PSSR next year, which will significantly improve image quality.

This will produce higher quality images without requiring some portions of the input, which suggests that you will still be generating a neat image from an imperfect source. As a result, this will reduce the amount of memory required to run and reduce GPU processing time.

In miniature, you’ll get a cleaner image faster with less memory – that’s something we can agree on, overall it all sounds positive.

Sony seems to be aware that some games have artifact issues, so they’ve created a tool that can support developers spot these issues more quickly. We assume that the theory is that if problems are easier to find, they can be solved faster.

The downside to all of this is that it looks like existing games will need to be patched to take advantage of the up-to-date features, so you’ll once again be relying on the support of your favorite developers.

However, if they can get the technology to Rockstar as soon as possible, there is a good chance that GTA 6 will be available with these features at launch. And it will sell plot PS5 Pro consoles, right?
