How do you pronounce Rayquaza, the legendary Pokémon Dragon? No, you are wrong.
Between the clashes of the competition during the Pokémon 2025 weekend world championships, viewers were treated a useful guide on a huge screen for Sky High Pokémon. Get ready, trainers.
According to Pokémon itself, Rayquaza is apparently pronounced Ray-Kway-Zuh, and not much more common pronunciation of Ray-Kwah-Zuh. Fans’ response to this revelation was definitely mixed, with answers in social media, such as “False”, “Nooooo” and “That’s Kway Kway”.
“It’s certainly AI,” one fan wrote, unable to accept what they saw. “It’s Ray Kwah Zuh.”
“I don’t care,” another fan added. “Ray-Kwah-Zuh Supremacy”.
“It doesn’t matter how many times Pokémon is trying to improve us, it is a real way to pronounce this and I do not take the answer!”

Despite these complaints, pronunciation makes sense. Like many names Pokémon, Rayquaza is a mixture of other words – in this case Ray is, referring to his heavenly nature and quasar.
“The name comes from acidar, so it’s correct,” wrote Arcashine, trying to inform others, “but I don’t think I could ever call this Raykwahzuh lol.” Yes.
Why does Pokémon inform fans? It seems likely that Rayquaza and its mega developed version will appear in the mega evolution -oriented Pokémon Legends: Za, intends to launch October 16. Now, to remember about the correct pronunciation of Rayquaza when time comes.
