It turns out nostalgia didn’t save Time Bandits from an untimely end, as the Apple TV+ series was canceled after one season

Well, not everything from the ’80s can come back, as Apple’s Time Bandits series has already been canceled.

The first season of Time Bandits began airing on Apple TV+ a few months ago, but I doubt most of you know about it, as it clearly didn’t do well enough to be renewed for a second season. As reported by DeadlineThe iPhone maker’s streaming service decided not to continue a second season about a month after the last episode dropped. If that surprises you, I don’t know why, as the series has a 66/100 score from critics on Metacritic, but only a 4.6/10 from users. That’s not a great start for a first season of television, especially in an era where shows have to be massive hits to have any chance of a sequel.

On top of that, Deadline notes that the series failed to crack the top 10 in Nielsen’s streaming ratings, suggesting that contemporary audiences weren’t particularly interested in it—this comes with the caveat that Deadline has heard that the series has done well in the U.K., home of the original 1981 Terry Gilliam-directed film and partly the setting for the up-to-date version. It’s clear, though, that nostalgia from Brits wasn’t enough to keep it alive.

It is crucial to remember that the program was met with criticism from actors suffering from dwarfismdue to the fact that the original film consisted mostly of actors with dwarfism, such as R2-D2 himself, Kenny Baker, while the series completely bypassed it in its cast. Adding to this issue, Charlyne Yi, one of the cast members of the series, claimed that they were attacked on the set of the series.
