Three years later and a few bumps in the road, Halo Infinite is looking to mix things up with… er, third-person mode!
Everyone has their own preferences for first- and third-person shooters (when will someone make a second-person shooter?), but no one can deny that the most significant way to experience Halo is in first-person. It would never be possible otherwise, at least without mods, but it just doesn’t look like Halo unless you’re staring down the barrel of its perfectly designed sci-fi weapon. Anyway, 343 Industries just announced this week that the game will be getting a third-person mode! Yes, really, I’m not going to pull your leg here, look, there’s even a miniature trailer you can watch below that confirms it’s real, from the official Halo Twitter account.

Look, I feel uncomfortable too, but I can only assume that someone somewhere wanted it, so 343 Industries is giving it to us (leaving aside the fact that it’s entirely possible that the director said he wanted a third-person mode in the game because he wanted it to be better sell skins like Fortnite does). Accompanying the footage is a note that it’s a work in progress, but for the most part it looks fully functional and it looks like you can switch between third and first person view depending on the weapon, which is quite convenient.

The reactions in the replies seem to be quite mixed – some express excitement, others frustration – and uh, Walmart Canada Gaming ringtone because I guess that’s what brands need to do these days.
Halo Infinite doesn’t seem to be a particularly high priority for Microsoft right now, considering it didn’t even appear at the company’s summer show this year and the Paramount+ TV show was canceled in Julyit just doesn’t seem like a good time to be a Halo fan right now overall.
