It looks like we won’t be playing as Geralt in The Witcher 4, according to his voice actor, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be there

Everyone’s favorite Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, will appear in The Witcher 4… but it looks like he won’t be the main character.

When The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt first came out… almost 10 years ago (damn, I’m getting venerable), it was clear by the end of the game that it was meant to be a grand finale. In fact, CD Projekt Red said as much in an interview with Polygon years before the game’s release, making it clear that this would be the end of Geralt’s story: “With the third part, we should wrap it up and tie up a lot of the threads,” CEO Marcin Iwiński told EW. “We could even potentially include Geralt in later games,” executive producer John Mamais further explained.

So it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to you that Geralt’s voice actor himself, Doug Cockle, said in a recent video for Fall Damage (thanks, Computer gamer) that The Witcher 4, or whatever it ends up being called, won’t be about the beloved character. “The Witcher 4 has been announced. I can’t say anything about that,” Cockle said. “All we know is that Geralt will be a part of the game, we just don’t know how much, and the game won’t be focused on him. So this time it’s not about him. We don’t know who the game is about. I can’t wait to find out. I want to know! I haven’t seen any scripts yet, I mean, I couldn’t say if I have. That’s how it is, so I can lie like a sore thumb. But I’m not lying. Or maybe I am?”

For those following all things Witcher 4, this won’t come as a surprise, especially after the Polygon interview above, but it still gives us a clearer picture of what we can expect from the upcoming sequel. Production is set to begin later this year, so don’t expect to play it anytime soon.
