Romance became a staple of the Persona series, but Metaphor: ReFantasia takes things in a slightly different direction.
This Metaphor: ReFantasia the guide covers everything you need to know about romance in the game and why the question of whether you can romance Followers is more sophisticated than just a “yes” or “no”.
Can you romance followers in Metaphor: ReFantazio?
Can your hero, the hopeful king, choose a king consort or queen consort for himself? Metaphor: reimagining? The compact answer is no, there is no romance system for Watchers or other NPCs Metaphor.
The main character is a bit busy defeating Count Louis, resurrecting the prince and bringing peace to the nation. Instead, many companions in this game act more as a friend or mentor Metaphorwhich gets rid of the sometimes extremely awkward or inappropriate sexual undertones of very underage characters in the Persona series (I’m looking at you, Kawakami, Joker’s high school teacher).
However, the answer is somewhat sophisticated. Beware of spoilers Below you’ll find some late-game character interactions.
Does Metaphor: ReFantazio have a forced romance?
While some Followers (namely Junah) will flirt a bit with your hero, Euf — your penultimate companion — she is the only one who openly confesses her love to you.
While she has hinted at her feelings for you in previous scenes, the confession comes as you end your bond with Euphy’s Follower when she asks to talk to you in Gauntlet Runner. You can play dumb and go against her feelings, but even if you say yes, it will only be implied. Basically, you stand on the deck of the Gauntlet Runner, hold hands, and talk about how meaningful your relationship is.
While it’s not much, it’s the only relationship in the game that raises the level of romance between your hero and another character. And it goes far enough to mess with your canon if you prefer your character to end up with someone else (or no one at all) at the end of the story.
If you like Eupha, I advise you to respond positively to her feelings because the scene is quite precious.
