The first trailer for James Gunn’s Superman drops tomorrow, and there’s a miniature teaser ahead of it.
What’s going on with marketing these days? We’ve known since the beginning of the week that the first Superman trailer would drop tomorrow, Thursday, December 19, and director James Gunn even gave us a snippet of the main theme to listen to while we wait for it. That’s all well and good, but now a 30-second trailer has been released that is literally just for tomorrow’s trailer. This is too much teasing! We don’t need this, we already know there’s a trailer coming tomorrow!
And yet here it is, showing mostly a bunch of random people looking up into the air (the film’s tagline is “Look Up” to keep track of), as well as our first look at Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olson. Oh, and yes, there are also a few shots of Superman flying through the air, but we don’t even see David Corenswet’s face, and they’re pretty quick, so the emphasis here is really on the word tease. At least we know when the trailer will be available tomorrow: 6:00 PT / 9:00 ET / 14:00 GMT. So by the time you read this, it will be less than 24 hours, and considering it’s just a trailer, I’m sure you’ll stick around for a while, right?

This first trailer will obviously be quite a test for Gunn as co-CEO of DC Studios, as it’s largely up to him to steer the modern DCU in a direction that doesn’t abandon the film franchise into oblivion. Sure, it’s Superman, but superhero movies don’t always do as well as they used to, so this first trailer has to be a good introduction to a character many know quite well.
