Some iPhone 16 There’s reportedly a Wi-Fi 7 update in the works for the Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, but it doesn’t appear to include the base model of the device. Wi-Fi 7 is a soon-to-be standard wireless technology that uses the regular 6GHz spectrum to boost internet speeds further than ever before, and we expect the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro to launch with the technology built in.
Is this rumor through DigiTimesTrue, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models will have faster internet quality and connection speeds than many of the cheaper models in the competition. This update will undoubtedly put the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max in contention for our list of the best 5G phones, beating the speeds of last year’s iPhone 15 Pro Max by several points.
However, it seems that the base model and Plus version of the iPhone 16 are not being treated the same. We often see an additional camera on the more high-priced alternatives, but another difference in this year’s device could be the Wi-Fi capabilities.
Wi-Fi 7 offers the best connectivity, as it allows data to be sent and received on the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands at the same time, meaning blazing-fast internet speeds and significantly lower latency. Basically, you get a more reliable connection than ever. We won’t find out if the entry-level iPhone 16 will feature Wi-Fi 7 until Apple officially unveils the device in a few weeks. While there’s still a chance that the cheaper models will feature Wi-Fi 7, it seems unlikely given these fresh details.
Competitors like Samsung already support Wi-Fi 7 on devices like the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which is one of the many reasons it tops our list of the best Samsung phones. It’s no surprise then that Apple is trying to catch up in terms of faster mobile internet connectivity. We’ll have to wait a bit longer before we find out if the entry-level iPhone 16 model comes with the same goodies as its Pro and Pro Max counterparts.
