Invincible VS roster expands to include Cecil, story mode announces the arrival of a brand fresh character that has never appeared anywhere else in the Invincible universe

Invincible VS has just announced its eighth playable character: Cecil.

Quarter Up, the developer of the 3v3 fighting game based on Robert Kirkman’s Invincible, has revealed intelligence agent Cecil Stedman in a gameplay video below. Read IGN’s interview with Kirkman and the creators of Quarter Up to learn more about how Cecil works and Invincible VS’s story mode.

Cecil’s announcement means that we now know eight playable characters in Invincible VS, who will be voiced by the actors who played those characters in the hugely popular Prime Video animated series. These include Mark Grayson (Invincible), Atom Eve, Bulletproof, Thula, Rex Splode, Battle Beast, Omni-Man, and now Cecil.

Here is the official blurb about Cecil:

A fan favorite of the Invincible TV series and comics, Cecil is one of the most desired playable characters. Most often heard as the voice of Mark’s earpiece, Cecil enters battle in Invincible VS with specialized weapons, including plasma guns, missile launchers, and grenades that keep enemies at bay. His ranged playstyle is combined with tactical combat, allowing him to play cat and mouse with his enemies. Want more? Cecil can also call upon an unlimited supply of Reanimen for support; with access to the Hammer – a powerful orbital laser – he is a devastating force on the battlefield.

Meanwhile, Quarter Up talked more about Invincible VS’s story mode, which is a standalone narrative set in the Invincible universe. The script was written by Helen Leigh, co-executive producer and writer of the Invincible TV show and narrative director of Invincible VS Mike Rogers, in collaboration with Kirkman. Expect over 25 minutes of specially designed animation in the story mode, which “plays like a special extended episode of the series” and introduces all the playable characters announced so far.

Interestingly, the story mode announces the appearance of a completely fresh character who has not yet appeared anywhere in the Invincible Universe. Quarter Up didn’t say who, but it did confirm that Cecil plays a key role in the story.

“‘Invincible’ has always been as much about compelling storytelling as it is about bloody beatings and fights that you can’t look away from,” Kirkman said.

“It was very important to me that we captured the essence of both the comic book and the TV series and introduced key characters into the game. We hope that with Story Mode, fans will feel like they are returning to the series, but experiencing the universe in a completely new way.”

Invincible VS will debut in 2026 on Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5 and PC. Players can register for the upcoming Invincible VS closed alpha later this year here.
