Blizzard has officially revealed a lot of what we can expect in the next season of Diablo 4. Season 7 of the game – which has no title yet – starts on January 21, but the 2.1 Public Test Realm (PTR) update starts much earlier.
Instead, version 2.1 of the PTR will be available on Tuesday, December 3 – though as usual only for PC players on BattleNet. However, for the first time, the PTR will also include seasonal content and will not be narrow only to the key gameplay improvements that will appear in the recent season.

The theme of Season 7 is all about witchcraft and using those skills in combat. It works similarly to the vampire powers from Season 2, allowing characters to gain unique powers that expire at the end of the season. Interestingly, some of these powers can only be discovered in the game world by locating their altars in dungeons and activating them.
The main modified enemy this season will be the Headrotten. Killing them will drop a Restless Rot, which you can utilize to unlock recent powers for your characters. Spell powers can also be upgraded, and Blizzard has even simplified the process compared to Season 2. You have five normal powers and one unique one.
Unique, limited-time gems are also back. Occult Gems can be incorporated into your jewelry and have their own sorcery abilities.
Gaining a reputation for the coven’s ties back to Whispers, so that’s a done deal for this season. Another way to find and kill Headrotten would be to hang out in Helltide-like Headhunt zones, which also function as Whispers.
Speaking of which, Blizzard has rolled out several updates to improve the gameplay experience of Whispers. The city around the Tree of Whispers has been modernized to include more services and the layout is slightly easier to navigate. The biggest news, however, is the recent Tree Raven feature, which allows you to return Whispers without having to return to the Tree. You will find them in Headhunt zones.

In terms of overall gameplay, one of the main improvements in version 2.1 is the Ultimate skill buff. Going forward, once the ultimate reaches rank 5, it will become more powerful or its damage scaling will be increased. You’ll even be able to enhance their power by selecting the appropriate skills in the skill tree and the appropriate nodes on the Paragon board.
More broadly, many classes in the game are receiving buffs. Some of them will be the result of changes in the operation of some passive elements. Technically, Spiritborn won’t be nerfed, but a few issues made it more powerful than intended in Season 6. Once these issues are fixed, the class won’t be as robust as it is now.
Another significant recent feature is the Armory, which allows you to save and load multiple sets of equipment for each character and switch between them without spending gold. Equipment sets may also include various Paragon boards. The armory can be found in many locations, including Sanctuary cities, as well as the Tree of Whispers, training areas, and even inside the Citadel.
As with every recent season, the loot pool will be expanded with recent Uniques, and some existing Uniques will be adjusted to be more consistent. There will also be recent legendary aspects, including ones that enhance the power of ultimate skills.
You can catch up on the live broadcast using the link in this story. However, patch notes will not appear until Wednesday, November 27.
