What’s next for Sucker Punch now that Ghost of Yotei is out? The Sony-owned studio has yet to reveal, but judging by the company executive’s comments, it will remain a one-man studio.
In an interview with VGCSucker Punch co-founder and head of studio Brian Fleming said that the studio will make a decision on the next project after the release of the Ghost of Yotei: Legends multiplayer expansion in 2026. However, he suggested, don’t expect a flurry of games from the relatively humble developer – it’s one project at a time.
“The truth is that whatever we do next, whether it’s a sequel to Ghost or a return to Sly, the decision is really more limited by the fact that we value focus and time to iterate, which means we can only really do one thing at a time,” he said.
“If we were good at combining four projects, yes, we would have a remaster, we would do one of these and one of those and fulfill the fan request, it would be really popular… But we can only do one thing.
“So this must be your best idea, right? That really explains it. It’s not like there aren’t 15 good ideas. But you can only do one. And by the way, you can only do one every five years. So this choice is really important. That is, choosing a college and a major every five years.”
Sucker Punch has a lot to draw from in their back catalogue. As Fleming mentioned, one of his classic brands is Sly Cooper, which fans are calling for to return in some form. What about the inFamous series? Will the remaster and then the sequel be a success? And then there’s the prospect of another Ghost game after Tsushima and Yotei. After all, everyone likes a trilogy.
