I never thought this day would come: Destiny 2 will finally give away a free ornament next month that you can earn

Destiny 2 Requests from players for cosmetics that can be monetized have been going on for years, and there has been much controversy over the division between what appears for free and what comes with a price tag. However, the studio surprised the community by announcing free cosmetics as part of an event taking place next month.

The upcoming Call to Arms event, scheduled for November 11, will bring plenty of rewards, but the most notable one may be the up-to-date exotic ornament for the New Malpais Pulse Rifle. The ornament – and other rewards, including finishing – will be available to all players, Bungie has confirmed today’s blog post.

The studio rarely gave away free, obtainable weapon and armor charms. WITH The edge of fateBungie added a charm to earn in the Conditional Finality that required players to have perfect play before they could purchase it for Silver (and within one week for Bright Dust). The up-to-date cosmetic item for New Malpais marks the first time in years that players can earn this type of item simply through gameplay.

The announcement comes after confusion at Bungie: Destiny 2player numbers are hitting a up-to-date record high, and last month the studio faced an in-game store scandal.

Team teased an “incredibly cool new armor set” for Iron Bannerwhich would be available for free by playing this mode. Studio though he was caught red-handed after moving the promised set to the paid Eververse store and instead allowing players to recolor the venerable base armor set. The community discovered the scandal after seeing Gladius concept art on Ben Low’s now-deleted Artstation page PC gamer archived his photo (see above).

“The overall balance of paid and earned armor cosmetics for this season is unavailable,” Bungie said in its report statement. As compensation, the team added another potential Eververse set to Iron Banner instead, but fans were furious over the decision to change the sets.

While this is the latest controversy regarding the disparity in quality between available and paid armor sets, it is by no means the only controversy that has occurred in recent years. In 2023, Bungie found it unable to maintain the pace of donning one ritual armor per yearwhich caused dissatisfaction in society. To remedy this situation, the studio added the Biosphere Explorer set to three ritual playlists, allowing all players to obtain them without spending any money.

This news also follows a significant shift in Bungie’s plans Renegadesincluding the removal of unstable cores, the removal of the seasonal reset in December, and a number of improvements to Portal that make working on power much easier.

Players will be able to earn the New Malpais charm, as well as a series of cosmetics and weapons when Call of Arms launches on November 11. Until then, the Festival of the Lost, the game’s regular Halloween event, will take place next Tuesday.
