Virtually every player has their own opinion on what they would like to see in the game Nintendo Switch2 in terms of hardware and games, but what about the broader gaming experience? Some artistic Redditors made me realize that Nintendo desperately needs to change their game boxes after seeing them custom Switch game spines.
I’m a forceful believer in video game preservation, and I’m also a collector, so I love buying physical copies of my favorite games to keep forever. Some of the best Nintendo Switch accessories even focus on displaying game boxes for everyone to see, but what’s the point if they all look the same? Reddit user Fun_Breadfruit1906 apparently has the same idea, showing off these amazing things custom Switch spines on r/Switch for a collection of Mario and Zelda games, and the community directed them to an entire subreddit dedicated to this practice, r/SwitchSpines.
This community has created custom Switch Box spines for a plethora of games such as Undertale, Life is Strange, and Crisis Core, to name a few, enabling thousands of enthusiastic Nintendo fans to spice up their physical game collections with unique and recognizable box art. After browsing the subreddit, I’m convinced this is something we need to see for the Nintendo Switch 2 game library.
The Nintendo community is arguably one of the more nostalgic and collectible-focused gaming communities, so making Nintendo Switch 2 game covers more fascinating than the current red spiked boxes will only encourage more people to buy physical games. What’s more, both PlayStation and Xbox have started incorporating custom spines or extended box art into their physical version designs, so Nintendo is once again left behind.
