I hate the Call Of Duty launcher so much

A few years ago, my best friends talked me into playing Call of Duty: Warzonea battle installment of the series that conquered the charts. Although I was aware of this for professional reasons, I had largely retired from franchising about a decade earlier, returning for compact stints and forays into the industry Black operations subseries that I loved. And I loved it War zone also over time, but only through many difficulties, namely trying to get used to it as a terrible client and launcher for others Call of Duty titles.

Call of Dutythe launcher is now home to the entire series, much like Riot’s launcher League of Legends, Valorantand more, and the premiere took place simultaneously with last year’s critically viewed Modern War III (no, no This MW3). When it did release, it seemed to be a tacit acknowledgment that this year’s modern game was little more than glorified and rushed DLC, and as a result the title was folded into the launcher, treated as merely a notch in the belt of a larger brand, a tile in a growing icon menu. That’s all every release in the series is now, which is reflected in the fact that there’s nothing unique about it Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in my Xbox’s game library, just like it used to be. Now it’s just that Call of Duty.

As well as obliterating any semblance of identity behind hard-working studies Call of Duty the machine cultivated, Call of Duty launcher it is also brutally useless and lifeless. Few products have ever looked and felt so clearly designed by committee.

The goal of the launcher should be to streamline the process of downloading any number of files Call of Duty games and their standalone modes. Each of the latest annual releases from 2019 Modern war is presented and some of these releases are even divided into separate modes, e.g Modern War II. This game as described in CODthe launcher is split between a single-player campaign, competitive multiplayer, co-op and DMZ, a PvE-focused spinoff War zone with which it is now confusingly associated MII Instead. Because he knows I’m playing Black Ops 6Zombie mode often, there’s a tile on the home screen that takes me there, and it’s one of the few times the launcher feels intuitive and helpful.

However, in most cases, the launcher is not as tidy and logically coherent as a tool. Right now I’m floating above MWIII it asks me to install the game because I don’t have it. Clicking on it invites me to choose between the game’s multiplayer element or its campaign. Vanguard, Cold War, and 2019 Modern war are also presented and even though I don’t own these games at all, the launcher treats them as if they were already installed. That is, until you click on them out of curiosity, at which point you will be taken to the store to purchase and install them. This caveat somehow goes unnoticed in the launcher!

Furthermore, it doesn’t feel like each title is as cleverly divided as others in the launcher. MIIas I mentioned, it has four different modes that I can install separately from each other, but this option doesn’t seem to exist for older titles like Cold war. So on the one hand, yes, it’s clear to know what’s where, but on the other hand, the launcher hardly explains everything.

Launcher i Call of Duty overall it also has a huge update problem where every time I launch the game regardless of whether it is War zone Or Black Ops 6 now, this Always it needs to be restarted to install some minor patch. It’s a tiny hiccup that I could easily ignore if it happened rarely, but when it does everyone cursed over time, the hiccups quickly turn into more pain. Why the fuck Do I need to charge each Call of Duty title twice to play it? Stop.

The current launcher design is actually a modernization of the launcher Call of Duty headquartersthe current name of the launcher when released with it MII last year. It was even more flashy then, but it doesn’t look much better now. Sure, it may not be as loudly ugly as it once was, but it also lacks color and identity. And although now it is better to distinguish individual products and their sizes – sidesteping War zoneprevious issue being packaged with the latest version – you will still have a bloated file size if you want to diversify your time spent with Call of Dutyi.e. only kind of Fixed many issues that the launcher was introduced and tuned to fix.

Fortunately, just navigating the ugly but simplified menu doesn’t take long to get me where I want it, but in almost every other way Call of Duty is home to the damp fart launcher. I think I would almost rather re-release standalone releases than have to deal with installing and uninstalling parts of games in the future to get the perfect Call of Duty experience. So yes, in case you didn’t know, I hate it.
