The latest patch for Helldivers 2 has helped trigger a marked change in player attitudes towards the game, as well as an escalate in player numbers. As you might expect, this has been a boon for Arrowhead’s developers, with one stating that morale at the studio has been “much, much better” recently.
Previously, Arrowhead CCO Johan Pilestedt described the difficulty of maintaining a positive mood at the studio when it faced criticism from players regarding the direction it was taking with changes to the game, writing: “It’s a hard situation. Criticism is valid, but it causes low morale, and low morale causes a tardy pace of development. We are talking about a negative spiral.

Fortunately, things sound a lot rosier in a recent response that Arrowhead Community Manager Twinbeard gave to a player asking about the topic on the Helldivers 2 Discord server, writing that morale following the latest patch and the arrival of Chemical Agents Warbond is “much, much better”.
“Many colleagues were sad or frustrated by the rush or inability to adequately take player feedback into account, which is of course understandable,” they wrote. “Personally, but I think many of my colleagues at Arrowhead will agree, we feel like we’ve fought our way back and been given a occasional opportunity to continue to do great things and grow the game to where we are now, rather than in mid-August.
“Are difficult things still happening in terms of the things we committed to? Bright. However, we are in a much better place now in terms of the game and I hope that in the long run what we are doing and the work we are putting in now will help us, the game and all its players.”
They then added in a separate post: “Honestly, really, with sugar on top I feel good too. “Me and we are still stressed, I’m not denying that, but again we are on a better track now in many ways long term (if it’s short term, things are still hectic).”
