How to Get the Fireproof Cloak in Black Myth: Wukong

Published:

The Fireproof Coat is a secret item in the first chapter. Black Myth: Wukongand obtaining it before the fight with Black Bear Guai should be one of your priorities.

Fireproof Mantle is a Vessel that you can equip and apply to resist all fire damage for a restricted time. There are many different situations where it is useful, but the Mantle is especially useful in the second phase of the Black Bear Guai boss fight at the end of Chapter 1.

The first thing you need to do to unlock the path to Fireproof Mantle is ring three bells and find the Ancient Guanyin Temple. If you follow the main story, you’re almost guaranteed to find the bells, but that didn’t stop me from skipping the Ancient Guanyin Temple entirely when I played. Thankfully, you’ll learn from my mistake and save yourself a lot of backtracking.

How to find a fireproof coat

To find the Fireproof Mantle, you must first defeat Guangzhi near Outside the Forest Shrine. Then, head to the Snake Trail Temple to find the Guangmou boss fight. After ringing the bell, head to the Marsh of the White Mist Temple where you can fight the White Clad Noble.

Here’s where I made a very uncomplicated mistake that ultimately cost me about an hour of backtracking to make sure I hadn’t missed any bells. When you ring the bell in the White Clad Noble boss arena, don’t continue to the next area. You actually need to go back through the main arena entrance, and from there you should see a newly revealed path to the right. Follow the path to be teleported to the Ancient Guanyin Temple, where another boss and a Fireproof Mantle await you.

How to Defeat Elder Jinchi

Before you can get the Fireproof Mantle, you’ll need to defeat Elder Jinchi. His fight is very similar to the Wandering Wight fight, though he has a few NPC monks that will attack you during the fight, and a special move that allows him to heal. Like the Wandering Wight, Elder Jinchi is fairly simple to take down, so apply a mix of magic, transformations, and combos to constantly break his stance. Then, while Elder Jinchi is floating in the air, start attacking his followers before they reach him to drain as much of his health regeneration as possible.

Aside from this great healing maneuver, Elder Jinchi doesn’t have any tricks up his sleeve. Avoiding the monks can be a bit of a pain, but they don’t do enough damage to require you to focus on them instead of the boss himself. Once Elder Jinchi is dead, you’ll receive the Fireproof Mantle and be fully prepared to fight the Black Bear Guai.
