Shiny Rayquazain all its black and gold glory, it appears in many Pokémon games, and Pokémon Scarlet AND Purple is no exception. This extremely uncommon beast will be available in 5-star Tera Raids December 20 to January 5so make sure you catch one of these bad boys before they leave.
The last time shiny Rayquaza was distributed outside Japan was in 2015 as part of a Pokémon promotion Ruby Omega AND Alpha Sapphire. You can hunt Rayquaza in almost every game it appears in, except the game Ruby Omega AND Alpha Sapphire (although we assume that’s why the distribution event was held). Rayquaza cannot be hunted regularly either Scarlet AND Purplewhat brings us here. Fortunately, catching a black and gold Tera raid buddy will be much easier than testing your luck and tender resetting your games to find one.
Below we explain how to get shiny Rayquaza Pokémon Scarlet AND Purple and explain the best counters you will want to apply to tackle this.
How to get shiny Rayquaza in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
WITH December 20, 2024 to January 5, 2025a shiny Rayquaza will appear Tera Raid Geese. Note that although you can participate in this fight multiple times, you can only catch one shiny Rayquaza from it. Once you catch the first one, you won’t be prompted to try to catch it again after winning.
To be able to take part in these rallies, you must meet the following requirements:
- Complete the main story in Pokémon Scarlet AND Purple
- Connect to the Internet in the Poké portal to refresh your holes
Once you’ve sorted everything out, you can seek out Rayquaza in the raid cave or via the online portal.
If you have Nintendo Switch Online and can fight these battles with other trainers, you won’t have to play through the story – you should be able to join other players’ Rayquaza havens.
Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid’s best counterattacks
Below we describe in detail the configurations for fighting Rayquaza that should perform decently. Of course, your mileage may vary as there is a bit of RNG when it comes to Rayquaza using certain attacks and so on. Don’t be surprised if it takes you a few tries. (Rayquaza’s Hurricane attack can confuse your Pokémon, which… can be annoying, to say the least.)
Structure of the Azumarill abdominal drum
- Nature: Adamant
- Skill: Enormous power
- Tera’s type: fairy
- electric vehicles: 252 HP/252 attack/4 defense
- IV: Maximum HP, attack, defense, special defense and speed
- Held item: ShellBell
- Moveset: Belly Drum (mirror egg move), Rough Play (learned at level 25), Elimination (TM110), Helping Hand (learned at level 1)
This is the OG raid build which is useful here as Azumarill will be fully immune to Rayquaza’s dragon type attacks. Maximize Azumarill’s attack with Drum, then apply Sharp to deal some sedate damage. It may take a few tries to get it right, as Drum cuts Azumarill’s health, you run the risk of getting knocked out.
Sylveon’s version of Sucking Kiss
- Nature: Humble
- Skill: Pixilated
- Tera’s type: fairy
- electric vehicles: 252 defense/252 special attack/4 HP
- IV: Max HP, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed
- Held item: Secret cloak
- Moveset: Hyper Beam (TM163), Draining Kiss (at level 30), Helping Hand, Peace of Mind (TM129)
This is a slightly safer setting. You can deal a lot of damage by using Hyper Beam with Pixilate and using Draining Kiss to recover your HP if it gets too low. Like Azumarill, Sylveon will be immune to a enormous number of Rayquaza attacks.
That said, your mileage may vary, and if you have other Fairy-type Pokémon built that are suitable for raiding, there’s no harm in taking them for a spin. Rayquaza hits demanding, but since it’s not on seven-star difficulty, you should be able to defeat it with a little patience and fairy-type moves.
