How to get all endings in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Published:

Everything in Dragon Age: Guardian of the Veil leads to the final confrontation. Even after all the decisions you make during the endgame – even after defeating Elgar’nan – you will have one final choice that will determine what ending you see. (And there’s also the matter of the post-credits scene.)

Our Dragon Age: Guardian of the Veil the guide will explain how to get all endingsincluding the secret ending. But first…

Let’s get this out of the way: there are spoilers for the ending Dragon Age: Guardian of the Veil. We will approach this carefully whenever possible, but there is no other way to do it.

How many endings are there in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

Dragon Age: Guardian of the Veil has three endings. Broadly speaking, and probably too simply, there is a good ending, a neutral ending, and a bad ending. There are many ways to reach these endings, but they all lead to one of three:

  • Bad ending: Fight Solas and force him to do the right thing
  • Neutral ending: Trick Solas into doing the right thing
  • Good ending: Convince Solas to do the right thing with your words (and a little aid)

A good (well, best available) ending requires a few extra steps. We’ll discuss all three endings below.

How to get a bad ending

To get the “bad” ending, you will have to make a choice “But I want to fight you.” at what point you will do it fight Solas and tie him to the Veil.

If both of your companions have not yet achieved Veilguard status, your fight against Solas will not go well. You will still bind Solas to the Veil, but Rook will be sucked in with him.

If both of your companions are Guardians of the Veil, you will force Solas to bond with the Veil after a final intense cutscene battle (and a very satisfying punch). Both endings are more or less bad endings.

How to get a neutral ending

To get a neutral ending, you will have to choose “Let’s try it your way” so you can trick Solas with a bogus dagger.

There’s a poetic justice to deceiving the God of Lies, so handing Solas a bogus dagger and tricking him into using it. It still involves a bit of involuntary imprisonment, so we’ll call this ending neutral at best.

How to get a good ending

If you have completed “The Dire Wolf’s Pity” and you have obtained the Essence of Mythal, after the final showdown you will have a third option – convincing Solas to stop. Once you’ve made your final choice, you’ll be able to have more dialogue beyond the bad and neutral endings. To choose “More” and then “You don’t have to do this.” This is how to employ the essence of Mythal and convince Solas to stop.

With this ending, you can redeem the Dire Wolf. And if you decide to get the Inquisitor to forgive him, he won’t be alone when he willingly binds himself to the Veil.

This is a good (or, I guess, best available) ending.

How to get the secret ending

Whatever ending you choose, you can Also get a secret scene after the credits. To unlock it, you need to find three entries in the Mysterious Circle codex by completing one puzzle (in Arlathan Forest) and two side quests (“The Summit of its Kind” and “The Heart of Corruption).
