How to Fix Fallout: London Crashes

Published:

Fallout: London is an excellent game that offers an genuine dose of post-apocalyptic action, created by a dedicated team of talented developers.

However, without the resources and budget of a mainstream studio, mistakes and technical difficulties were always possible.

After going through the complicated process of installing Fallout: London on Steam, many players are reporting an ever-increasing number of game crashes when attempting to launch it.

Most of them seem to center around the train crash scene that takes place almost early in the mod’s story, but Fallout: London can crash pretty much anywhere in the game.

My experience with Fallout: London was okay until I started wandering the streets of London, where the game started crashing more and more frequently until it was finally unable to launch again.

However, with this fix, which involves installing another mod that aims to improve the game engine’s robustness, my gameplay was completely uninterrupted, aside from a few hiccups. Here’s what you need to do!

How to Fix Fallout London Crashes

As with most good things these days, this fix was developed by Status_Jellyfish_213 on Reddit, who wrote about a useful additional mod in Fallout: London Subreddit.

I personally followed these steps and it made my version of Fallout: London on GOG much, much more stable.

To fix failures:

  1. Go to NexusMods and download Buffout 4 (you only need one Buffout 4 file, Fallout: London already has the rest of the necessary files installed)
  2. Unpack the Buffout 4 ZIP file and open the uncompressed folder where you will find a folder named “F4SE”
  3. Open a novel File Explorer window and select the location where Fallout 4 is installed – for me it was “This PC” – “Windows (C:)” – “Program Files (x86)” – “GOG Galaxy” – “Games” – “Fallout 4 GOTY” (for Steam it is in “Steam” – “steamapps” – “common”)
  4. Now click on the “Data” folder Fallout 4where you will find another folder named “F4SE”
  5. Drag the F4SE folder from the Buffout 4 window to the F4SE folder in the Fallout 4 window transfer files
  6. Next, go back to your Fallout 4 folder and look for “f4se_loader” and run it
  7. This should run Fallout: London without as many crashes

In the future, you should also run Fallout: London from f4se_loader.

While this made my version of Fallout: London much more crash-proof, it didn’t completely fix it. There still seems to be some inconsistency with quicksaving, where my game would freeze if there was too much action on screen right after saving.

Try to only save your game during quieter moments, and don’t run to novel areas right after using the quicksave option, as this can cause the game to freeze.

Other than that, I’ve been able to play with virtually no restrictions since I installed this patch.

I will continue to monitor Team FOLON channels and update this page if an official fix is released, but for now this is more than enough!
