“Poison in the roots” is part of the main questline in Diablo 4 Season 7, Season of Wonder. To complete it, you must help the witches of the Tree of Whispers by performing a special ritual. This activity has some light puzzle elements which can make it a bit challenging.
Including Diablo 4 guide, we will give you the full one “Poison in the Roots” walkthrough.including showing how to navigate the ritual puzzle.
How to complete the ritual in “Poison in the Roots” in Diablo 4
When you turn around enough Grim Favors (by doing Whispers in the World), you will be able to start the quest “Poison in the Roots” and you will be asked to talk to the witches in the Tree of Whispers. The scene will go black and when you regain control, the witches will perform the ritual. The ritual consists of four parts:
- Light the braziers
- Collect Nangari blood
- Trace the ritual circle
- Protect the ritual
We will describe each step in detail below.
Solving the cauldron puzzle in “Poison in the Roots”
In the first stage of the ritual, the witches will ask you to “invoke the tree’s aged name in the correct order.” That’s some fancy Diablo talk about “clicking three witches in the right order.” If you listen to what they say (or look in the chat log), each witch will have a spell word that she will say in a specific order, which is the order you will have to repeat.
Talk to the witches and activate their cauldrons in the following order:
- “Ouch” (cauldron bottom left, Gelena)
- “Yew” (lower right pot, Caidin)
- “Oun” (upper cauldron, Ouna)
Talking to the witches and selecting their prompts in this order will lightweight all three braziers at once, speeding up the ritual.
All you need to do to perform the Nangari blood step is kill three snakes in the ritual circle. When each of them dies, they will drop some of their blood, which you just have to collect like any other item.
How to trace a ritual circle with Nangari blood
Pouring blood around a step in a circle is a bit confusing because it’s unlike anything else you really need to do in Diablo. When the witches ask you to “trace the ritual circle with Nangari blood”, the game wants you to simply guide your character around the outer circle ritual, basically where the fireplaces are.
You may have to run the circle a few times before blood starts to appear, but eventually it will appear in the area and you’ll complete this step.
How to keep Hollows out of the ritual circle
To complete the final step in this task, you simply have to do it kill all Hollow enemies who try to disrupt the ritual. These enemies are relatively delicate in terms of health, and all enemies except bosses should pop under the pressure of even the most basic skills. If you’re having trouble keeping the Hollows out of the ritual as you level up, consider lowering the difficulty as low as you can until you’ve completed this quest – you can always put it back later.
Once everyone is dead and the ritual is complete, you will complete the quest, be teleported back to the open world map, and earn compact rewards (Legendary and a collection of miscellaneous scrap). More importantly, you’ll be able to continue the seasonal questline and unlock more witch powers.
Heading into this season, here’s the ultimate Spiritborn build, all Akarat Rules locations, and guides on how to unlock Mercenaries and get more loot in Kurast Undercity.
